i left the jw's shortly after i graduated high school.

but when i was still at home i'd get dragged into door to door every saturday morning without fail unless it was pissing rain.

i can remember always being anxious to know what territory my group was assigned.

All painfully familiar. Kids suffer the most indignities as JW's. I think that is by design.

Useless Majors

i was passing through a very liberal college town recently during rush hour.

so, i decided to stop for some refreshment at a fine-looking establishment and wait for traffic to die down.

a young waitress waited on me who probably could have been stevie nicks twin when she was young.

I guess the word "useless" is a somewhat harsh and subjective term, although the term: "useless college degres" yields lists from many reputable sources. Studying anything will yield some benefit for sure. It is certainly better than sitting around doing nothing. Earnings potential may be a better gauge for some.

For comparison’s sake, a minimum wage job that pays $15 per-hour works out to $31,200 in yearly wages, if you were to work 40 hours every week. That pay is nearly on par with what you’d earn for a college major in family and consumer sciences — a life-skills college degree that ranks the worst in terms of median pay within five years of graduation, with yearly wages of $32,000.

Four majors — family and consumer sciences, the performing arts, general social sciences and social services — actually pay less than the median salary of $35,805 for full-time workers in the U.S., regardless of education, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

Education Smart . org lists Anthropology And Archeology, Art history, Ethnic and civilization studies & Psychology as among their top 20 Most Useless College Degrees.

Dumb 'experiences' you were told as a JW

this one stands out in my mind.

it was reported that 'a brother', unnamed of course, was out in field service and was set upon by a pack of vicious dogs.

he made it back to the car and was injured quite badly with his arms, hands and leg bleeding heavily.

JW Urban Legend:

A JW was at a large beautiful house and got into a heated argument with the HH. As he walked away, the brother told the HH that one day he would live in that big house of his after Armageddon.

Sometime later, while this brother was working at an Assembly in food service, someone tapped him on the shoulder and it was the man whom he had the argument with. The man was grinning ear to ear and said that if he still wanted to live in his house, he would need to buy it ...because he had just gotten baptized.

My ending:

They then hugged each other and shared a Shasta Lemon-lime soda to commemorate the occasion.

Starting September 01, 2022, the Angels will help in the ministry work

2022 governing body update # 6. what exciting news david splane has for all jehovah's witnesses ( who for the last three years were spared the house-to-house preaching work ) '' that we'll return to the ministry september 01, 2022. just in time for our world wide campaign to start bible studies.

and, i'm sure the angels are excited too, because it will give them opportunities to help us with our ministry.''.

not only will the witnesses be rusty in their return to the field ministry, the angels in heaven have been sitting idle while the pandemic stopped the house-to-house ministry.

When you are appointed over all the "belongings" of God, I guess its not enough to just boss people around, you get to tell the angels what to do as well. Poor angels, no more sleeping in on Saturday mornings.

I was passing through a very liberal college town recently during rush hour. So, I decided to stop for some refreshment at a fine-looking establishment and wait for traffic to die down. A young waitress waited on me who probably could have been Stevie Nicks twin when she was young. I couldn't help but notice the fine fishing tackle that adorned her ears, eyebrow and nose.

Being a naturally inquisitive person I asked her if she was a student and she answered in the affirmative. Wondering what kinds of things the Millennials are studying these days prompted me to ask what she was majoring in with her studies. She answered Pre-historic Agriculture.

Fascinated, I asked what were the inhabitants of Chaco Canyon dining on 1200 years ago. She said, "maize". The exchange reminded me of the Sociology Major that I had chosen some 25 years ago as I exited the WT. I thought it might shed some light on the whole WT experience that generations of my family had been involved it. It didn't, except to reveal that social engineers believe that people can be socialized into believing/doing just about anything.

Sea Breeze Jr. will be studying engineering next year at university.

One elder told our book study that in the new world our primary duty would be to tame the animals..... even fish. He actually said that no doubt we would be provided boats to go out into the water and tame the fish.

He didn't say who would be building the boats nor did he mention any of the fish taming techniques that would be employed.

New World WT article :

These fine brothers had a wonderful time taming fish in place of field service. They took seriously the words of the Slave just as they would the "voice of God" in the old system and now have this great never-to-be-repeated assignment in the New System. What a wonderful provision from the Slave!

Definitely one interpretation. When I posted it, I imagined the image as an accurate representation of JW's digging their own graves, in this life.... Working for your salvation is such a foreign concept to the NT and much of Christianity:

Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describes the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputes righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. JW's live with a different rule in mind:

"It is vital that we appreciate this fact and respond to the directions of the "slave" as we would to the voice of God, because it is His provision." Watchtower 1957 Jun 15 p.370

In other words, "Dig those graves you good for nothing slaves"...

JW's: "What a privilege to work for the "Slave"... probably we may be concealed in the day of Jehovah's wrath.

Did becoming a JW influence you to give up something you enjoyed ?

when i was a teenager a younger fellow workmate was involved in the sport of judo.i got interested and went along to a number of sessions and took to it like a sponge to water ,and as a sport i was happy participating in.. not that much longer another workmate was getting re-activated in the religion of jw`s.

which i had never heard o before and then got interested in that .. conflict : was judo a sport that was compatible with j.w beliefs?

sadly i decided it was not and stopped any further involvement.. to this day i resent that decision i made back then .and i`m 82 years old now.. it was a sport i was comfortable doing and i enjoyed it.and i gave it up because of the religion .who knows what i may have achieved had i continued with it.

Yes! I had to avoid aluminum frying pans, sleeping on my left side, & inoculations. Chewing gum was to be avoided like the plague.

and so did jesus —because he was human.

so let’s say jesus took a dna test, his mitochondrial dna would go back to eve but interestingly jc also would inherit dna from sinful adam on his mother’s side because his mother mary passed on to jc dna from both adam and eve.

Actually a small section of the Y chromosome undergoes recombination with the X during meiosis, allowing for some of that paternal Y chromosome DNA to get transferred to an X chromosome that might ultimately end up inherited by a daughter.
